irclickid
What is irclickid in a URL?
How it gets onto a link
A link like this does not go straight to the shop. A Brave browser issue from October 2023 traced one: a link on another site redirected to a short address on an impact.com tracking domain, which redirected again to the shop's product page with ?irclickid=QQD2zbykJxyPTmGz47wiYyUCUkFQ2fRt028z140&irgwc=1 added.
The issue points to impact.com's integration guide, whose section on the click ID tells the shop to capture and store it.
Does it identify a person?
Brave's assessment, in the same issue: the value "does not appear to be linked to someone's identity and instead seems to be randomly generated, but it is meant to be used as a stable identifier to recognize a single user across different pages." It tracks one consumer's journey, not a campaign.
Forward a product link with it attached and the next person's visit carries your click's identifier.
How LinkClean removes it
Default-on and global. The companion irgwc=1 from the same redirect is not in the catalog, so LinkClean leaves it in place. Brave strips irclickid, AdGuard's filter strips it everywhere except on tix.axs.com, after a report that the ticket page broke without it. LinkClean has no such exception, so turn irclickid off before cleaning an AXS link. ClearURLs strips it on Best Buy links.
Frequently asked
Who adds irclickid?
impact.com's tracking domains, on the redirect from a referral link to the shop.
Will the shop still work without irclickid?
Yes. The product is addressed by the path. Without the click ID, impact.com cannot tie that visit to the link you clicked.
Why is irgwc still on the cleaned link?
Because LinkClean's catalog does not list it yet. It is a separate parameter from the same redirect.
