What is yclid?

What yclid does

Yandex Direct (Yandex's ad platform) appends ?yclid=<token> to outbound paid-search clicks the same way Google appends gclid and Microsoft appends msclkid. The token encodes the advertiser, the campaign, the ad-group, and the click — used by Yandex's Metrica analytics on the destination to credit the conversion.

Yandex is the second-largest search engine in Russia and significant in a handful of post-Soviet markets. yclid shows up on outbound ad clicks from yandex.ru (and historically from go.mail.ru when that partnership was active).

Why it's worth stripping anyway

Even if you're not in a Yandex-heavy market, yclid lands on links you might receive from people who are. Forwarding it follows the same logic as fbclid: the click ID is bound to a Yandex session on their side, and propagating it leaks attribution metadata into your forward.

Yandex also runs ymclid (a related Yandex.Metrica click ID), which LinkClean's reference catalog covers in the opt-in set.

How LinkClean removes it

yclid ships default-on in the ads catalog alongside gclid, fbclid, msclkid, ttclid.

Frequently asked

Where do most yclid-tagged links come from?

Yandex Direct (paid-search ads on yandex.ru and the Yandex ad network). Most common on Russian-language pages; you'll see it less often outside that ecosystem.

Does Yandex have a Pixel-equivalent that reads yclid?

Yes — Yandex.Metrica. Functionally similar to Google Analytics + Meta Pixel: a script on the destination page reads yclid and reports the conversion to Yandex.

Is yclid in LinkClean by default?

Yes. Default-on, stripped on every host.
