wt_mc
What is wt_mc in a URL?
What wt_mc is
Mapp's Android SDK has a method that “will track campaign parameters from url”, and it takes an optional media code: “if nil ‘wt_mc’ is used as default”. So wt_mc is the name Mapp Intelligence looks for unless a site configures another one.
The SDK's sample link is ?wt_mc=email.newsletter.nov2020.thursday: a channel, a mailing, a month and a day, joined by dots. The code is the sender's own label, shared by everyone who clicks the same link.
Mapp and Webtrekk
The same SDK describes itself as integrating “Mapp tracking systems” and says the data goes to “Webtrekk analytic servers”; its code still lives in a package named webtrekk. The wt_ prefix reads as that older name; that is an inference, not something the SDK states.
How LinkClean removes it
Default-on and global. LinkClean also removes wt_zmc, listed beside it. Mapp's SDK does not mention that one, so this page does not explain it. AdGuard's filter strips wt_mc as well.
Frequently asked
Who adds wt_mc to a link?
The company that sent it, when it measures campaigns with Mapp Intelligence (formerly Webtrekk). The value is the media code its marketing team chose.
Is wt_mc safe to remove?
Yes. It is read by analytics to file the visit under a campaign. The page does not need it.
Is wt_mc like utm_campaign?
It does a similar job for a different analytics product, packed into a single value instead of several tags.
