Parameter: `WickedID` · Category: Ad-click identifiers · Vendor: Wicked Reports

> WickedID is **a tag advertisers add to their ad links for Wicked Reports**, so a click can be traced back to the exact ad. In the examples Brave collected it travels with `WickedSource=Facebook` or `wickedsource=google`. The page loads the same without it, and LinkClean strips it on every site.

## What WickedID carries

A Brave browser issue from January 2021 describes it: "Wicked Reports uses a `WickedID` query string parameter to track clicks associated with a specific Facebook ad." The issue links Wicked Reports' own help page on tagging a Facebook ad with it.

The examples it collected show the shape: `WickedSource=Facebook&WickedID=23846328971330060` on one site, and `wickedsource=google&wickedid=437638785839` on another, there next to `wickedplacement=` and `wickedkeyword=`. Going by the issue, the value identifies the ad rather than the person who clicked it.

## Why it is worth removing

The Brave issue gives the reason: "Since Facebook ads can be very finely targeted, this is potentially much broader targeting" than a campaign-level tag. A link carrying the ad ID tells the site which narrowly targeted ad reached you, and forwarding it passes that on.

## How LinkClean removes it

`wickedid` is default-on and global, and LinkClean matches names regardless of case, so `WickedID` goes too. **`WickedSource`, `wickedplacement` and `wickedkeyword` are not in the catalog yet** and stay on the link. ClearURLs and AdGuard's filter strip `wickedid` as well.

## Example

Looks like this in a URL: `https://example.com/tour/coast/?nextyear=true&WickedSource=Facebook&WickedID=23846328971330060`

After LinkClean: `https://example.com/tour/coast/?nextyear=true&WickedSource=Facebook`

## Frequently asked

**Is WickedID the same as wickedid?**

Yes. The examples in the wild use both spellings. LinkClean treats them as one name.

**Why is WickedSource still on the cleaned link?**

Because LinkClean's catalog does not list it yet. It names the ad platform, such as Facebook or google, rather than the ad.

**Is it safe to remove WickedID?**

Yes. It is read for attribution. The page is addressed by the rest of the link.
