vero_id
What is vero_id in a URL?
What Vero says it does
Vero's help page, as quoted in a Brave browser issue from September 2020, says the value is "the unique ID of the user who has clicked the link", and that "adding this parameter enables Vero's Javascript library to automatically identify a user when they land on your site, even if they are not already identified. This enables cross-device tracking and ensures a more complete and accurate customer profile."
So it is not a campaign label. It names the recipient.
What it reveals when a link is forwarded
Whoever opens a forwarded link arrives carrying your ID. Going by Vero's description, a site running its script would identify that visitor as you.
Does removing it break the link?
No. Vero's own page, quoted in the same issue, describes what happens when a sender turns the parameter off: "Vero's Javascript library will no longer automatically identify users when they click through from an email." That is the only effect it describes.
How LinkClean removes it
Default-on and global, with vero_conv, which LinkClean lists beside it; the sources this page relies on do not describe vero_conv. ClearURLs and AdGuard's filter strip both names.
Frequently asked
Does vero_id identify me?
Vero says its value is the unique ID of the user who clicked the link, and that it lets the site identify you when you land.
Is vero_id safe to remove?
Yes. Without it Vero's script simply does not identify you automatically. The page loads the same.
Is vero_id the same as mc_eid?
It does a similar job for a different email platform: mc_eid is Mailchimp's subscriber identifier.
