Parameter: `vd_source` · Category: Social · Vendor: Bilibili

> vd_source is **a parameter Bilibili adds to video URLs when you are logged in**, and users who examined it report that its value is tied to the account, not to the video. Share the link and anyone who opens it carries your value back to Bilibili. LinkClean strips it on bilibili.com, along with `spm_id_from` and the `share_*` set.

## What vd_source is

Bilibili's users noticed it in June 2022: open a video while logged in, and the address gains `?vd_source=` followed by 32 hexadecimal characters. The same account produces the same value on different videos, which is how people worked out that it identifies the viewer who is sharing and not the video being shared.

Bilibili has not published a description of it. What follows from the behaviour is plain enough: if you copy that address and send it to someone, their visit arrives carrying a token that points back at your account.

## The rest of a Bilibili share link

vd_source is the most identifying part of a longer tail. `spm_id_from` and `from_spmid` record the click path — which page and which module the click came from. `share_source`, `share_medium`, `share_plat`, `share_session_id`, `share_tag` and `share_from` describe the share sheet it went through. `bbid` and `unique_k` are further identifiers.

None of it addresses the video. The video is the `BV…` id in the path; `p=` (which part of a multi-part video) and `t=` (the start time) are functional and worth keeping.

## Short links: b23.tv

Bilibili's app shares `b23.tv` short links, which hide the whole tail behind a redirect. With **Expand Short Links** switched on in Settings → Cleaning, LinkClean follows a b23.tv link to the full video address and then cleans it. Expanding is a network request, which is why it is off until you turn it on.

## How LinkClean removes it

Default-on, scoped to `bilibili.com`. The whole share payload goes in one pass, and `p=` and `t=` are preserved. On any other site the same names are left alone.

## Example

Looks like this in a URL: `https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1xx411c7mD/?share_source=copy_web&vd_source=0123456789abcdef0123456789abcdef&spm_id_from=333.1007.tianma.1-1-1.click&t=42`

After LinkClean: `https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1xx411c7mD/?t=42`

## Frequently asked

**Does vd_source reveal my Bilibili account?**

It is tied to it. The value stays the same across the videos one account opens, so anyone holding two links you shared can tell they came from the same person, and Bilibili can attribute visits to the account that shared.

**Does the video still play without vd_source?**

Yes. The video is identified by the BV id in the path.

**What is spm_id_from?**

A click-path marker: it records which page and which block on that page the click came from. It is removed by the same rule set.

**Does LinkClean keep the timestamp?**

Yes. t= and p= are functional on Bilibili and are not in the catalog, so they survive cleaning.
