Parameter: `mc_tc` · Category: Email marketing · Vendor: Mailchimp

> mc_tc is **Mailchimp's tap-target identifier** — names which specific link inside an email was clicked. The third in Mailchimp's standard tracking trio with mc_cid (campaign) and mc_eid (recipient). Strip it with the rest.

## What mc_tc adds on top of mc_cid + mc_eid

Mailchimp's tracking can record three things per click: which campaign (mc_cid), which subscriber (mc_eid), and which specific link inside the email was clicked (mc_tc). The third dimension lets Mailchimp's analytics measure CTAs separately — e.g. how many people clicked the hero button vs the footer link in the same email.

mc_tc carries no personal identity on its own (it identifies the link, not the person). But it always rides alongside mc_eid, which does.

## How LinkClean removes it

Default-on. Stripped with the rest of the Mailchimp trio.

## Example

Looks like this in a URL: `https://example.com/article?mc_cid=abc123&mc_eid=78fa90&mc_tc=link-hero-1`

After LinkClean: `https://example.com/article`

## Frequently asked

**Is mc_tc personal data?**

Not on its own — it names the link, not the recipient. But it ships alongside mc_eid (which is identity-bound).

**Why does Mailchimp need a per-link ID?**

Different CTAs inside the same email need separate click-counts for A/B testing and per-CTA conversion attribution.
