Parameter: `dib` · Category: Analytics IDs · Vendor: Amazon

> dib is **an opaque token Amazon attaches to a product link when you open it from a search results page**, paired with `dib_tag` (usually `se`). Amazon has not documented either. The product loads identically without them, and LinkClean strips both on Amazon storefronts — together with `qid`, `sr`, `crid` and `sprefix`, which restate the search you ran.

## What dib looks like

Open a product from Amazon's search results and the address grows a long parameter: `dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.` followed by a few hundred characters. The first segment is readable — `eyJ2IjoiMSJ9` is Base64 for `{"v":"1"}`, a version marker — and the rest is not. Next to it sits `dib_tag=se`.

**Amazon publishes no description of either.** They began appearing on search-result links and are treated as tracking by the people who maintain cleaning rules: Firefox added `dib`, `dib_tag` and `crid` to its Copy Link Without Site Tracking list for Amazon in October 2024.

## The search context around it

dib is one of several parameters that only appear when you arrive from a search. `qid` is a query id and `sr` the rank of the result you clicked (`sr=8-3` is the third result). `crid` identifies the autocomplete session, and `sprefix` contains what you had typed when you picked a suggestion.

Put together, a product link copied from a search says what you searched for, what you had typed first, and which result you chose. The person you send it to only needed the product.

## What LinkClean keeps

`th=` and `psc=` select the variant — the size or colour you were looking at — so they survive. `k=` is the query on a search page and stays too.

LinkClean cleans the query string. The `/ref=…` segment Amazon writes into the path is not a query parameter and is left as it is.

## How LinkClean removes it

Default-on, scoped to Amazon's storefront domains. The same names on other sites are untouched. For the whole procedure see [How to clean an Amazon product link](https://linkclean.app/guides/clean-amazon-link/).

## Example

Looks like this in a URL: `https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0TEST1234?crid=2M096C61O4MLT&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.abc&dib_tag=se&qid=1700000000&sr=8-3&th=1`

After LinkClean: `https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0TEST1234?th=1`

## Frequently asked

**What does dib stand for?**

Amazon has not said. Nothing in its public documentation expands or explains the name.

**What does dib_tag=se mean?**

It is undocumented. The value se is the one seen on links opened from search results, which is consistent with it naming the surface the click came from — an inference, not a published fact.

**Does removing dib break the product link?**

No. The product is addressed by the ASIN in the path, after /dp/.

**Why keep th= and psc=?**

Because they are functional. They choose which variant of the product the page opens on, and removing them can land the reader on a different size or colour.
