Parameter: `dchild` · Category: Analytics IDs · Vendor: Amazon

> dchild is **a marker Amazon adds to product links, almost always as `dchild=1`**, typically on links opened from a search results page. Amazon has not documented it. The product is addressed by the ASIN in the path, and LinkClean strips `dchild` on Amazon storefronts.

## What dchild looks like

It sits among the search parameters of a product link: `…/dp/B0TEST1234?dchild=1&keywords=usb+c&qid=1700000000&sr=8-3`. The value is nearly always `1`.

**Amazon publishes no description of it.** A common reading is that it marks the product as a child variation, one size or colour of a parent listing, reached from search. That is an inference from the name. The page shown does not change when it is removed.

## What it travels with

`qid` and `sr` record the search and the rank of the result you clicked, `crid` and `sprefix` the autocomplete session, and [dib](https://linkclean.app/trackers/dib/) the result slot. LinkClean removes those on Amazon as well. `refRID`, the request id of the page that linked to the product, goes with them.

## What LinkClean keeps

`th=` and `psc=` select the variant you were looking at, so they stay. `keywords=` and `k=` are the search query and stay too. Several public strip lists remove `keywords`; LinkClean does not, because on a search page it is the search.

## How LinkClean removes it

Default-on, scoped to Amazon's storefront domains. ClearURLs, AdGuard's filter and Firefox strip `dchild` on Amazon too. For the whole procedure see [How to clean an Amazon product link](https://linkclean.app/guides/clean-amazon-link/).

## Example

Looks like this in a URL: `https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0TEST1234?dchild=1&qid=1700000000&sr=8-3&th=1`

After LinkClean: `https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0TEST1234?th=1`

## Frequently asked

**What does dchild=1 mean?**

Amazon has not said. The name suggests it marks a child variation of a product, which is an inference and not a published fact.

**Does removing dchild change the product shown?**

No. The ASIN in the path picks the product, and th= and psc= pick the variant.

**Is dchild an affiliate parameter?**

No. The affiliate ID on an Amazon link is tag=. dchild appears on ordinary search-result links.
